In 2011 I was fortunate enough to be asked to write the first piece for a new Daily Mirror series, called Real Britain, highlighting the divisions caused by poverty in the UK. This was a time of immense optimism in London, as the Olympic Games approached, but some living near the new development felt left behind. Throughout the ensuing years, I regularly went back to reporting on similar stories for the paper.
